CLIFTON FORGE – C. C. “Jimmie” Coffey, 82, of 1109 Concord Street, Selma, left his earthly home for his Heavenly mansion on Sunday, April 17, 2011.
He was born Feb. 8, 1929 in Alleghany County to the late Charlie Clifton Coffey and Annie Lee Morgan Coffey.
He was a self employed general contractor, founding and operating, of C. C. Coffey Excavators. He was a member of the Living Word Assembly of God Church in Covington and an honorary member of the Selma Volunteer Fire Department, and was an avid motorcyclist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Reba Delores Davis and a brother, Bobby Linwood Coffey.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Dewey” Coffey of Selma; two daughters, Velma Jean Coffey of Christiansburg and Janice Marie Coffey of Mount Airy, Md.; a brother, Alwyn C. Vandergrift and wife Paige of Richmond; one granddaughter, Tonya Marie Davis of Christiansburg; two great granddaughters, Ashley Marie Davis and Ana Marie Davis; adopted great grandchildren, Lillian Grace Sweeney and Nathaniel Gilbert; nieces and nephews, Michael Vandergrift and wife Wendy, Sarah Vandergrift, and B. J. Coffey; his beloved companion Shop Cat; and close family friends including Kathy Sweeney, Mary Ellen Bumgardner, and his Sunday school teacher, Ralph Kelly. He is also survived by the caring staff at UVA Medical Center 4th East and CCU, and also Mountain Regional Hospice.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. Mike Warren and the Rev. Steve Tremblay officiating.
Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Broughman, Lacey Broughman, Ted Sharpe, Raymond Broughman, Donald Allen, Kenny Perry, Danny Hague, and Charlie Smith.
Motorcyclists are encouraged to join the procession to the cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
