A singles sweep powered Alleghany’s boys tennis team to a 7-2 season-opening win over Buffalo Gap Tuesday at Clifton Middle School.
Dominic Trice, Stone Russell, Chris Tingler, Tanner Arritt, Trey Brackenridge and Dawson Tolley ran the table for the Mountaineers.
Trice and Tingler also teamed up for a victory at No. 1 doubles.
“It was a good first win and we were able to substitute in some players,” said AHS?coach Seth Davis. “Thankfully we have a practice before Friday (William Fleming) to work on correcting footwork and positioning issues.
“We had seven guys play in their first real tennis match so things are going to take some time, but I see flashes of what we can become. Every day is important as we try to get better. We thank the fans who came out today.”
The Mountaineers are scheduled to play at William Fleming on Friday.
