CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – The Shenandoah Ballet’s Nutcracker, directed by Missy Belcher Floyd, returns to delight the entire family on Saturday and Sunday, December 20 and 21 for two performances. An evening performance is scheduled on Saturday, December 20 at 6:30 and a matinee performance is scheduled for Sunday, December 21 at 2:00 pm.

One of the most popular performances of past seasons, the ballet is based on the E.T.A. Hoffman tale, “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice”. Although the performance on stage today differs in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same.

Clara dreams of her beloved Nutcracker winning the battle against the Mouse King, journeys through the land of the Snow Queen and her King, and arrives in the land of Sweets and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The ballet, a Christmas classic, is set to the timeless Tchaikovsky score, and was first performed in 1892 by the Mariinsky Theatre, home to the Kirov Ballet.

Tickets for “The Nutcracker” may be purchased online at www.historicmasonictheatre.com or by calling the Theatre Box Office at 540 862 5655. For more information about holiday events at The Historic Masonic Theatre, please visit the Theatre website and/or Facebook page.
