BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (VR) – Carilion Clinic broke ground Tuesday, Oct. 20, on a Daleville expansion that will add a 24-hour emergency department and specialty services for Botetourt County and surrounding communities.

The 40,000-square-foot addition will expand the existing facility to 65,000 square feet. Construction is expected to finish in 2027, with current practices remaining open throughout the project.

The first floor will include a fully staffed, approximately 15,000-square-foot emergency department with dedicated parking and walk-in access. A nearly 13,000-square-foot outpatient clinic on the second floor will add general surgery, orthopaedics and cardiology.

Those services will join the facility’s existing primary care, OB/GYN and imaging services. Space on both floors will be reserved for future outpatient services.

Paul Davenport, Carilion’s senior vice president for ambulatory operations, said the expansion will give patients greater access to emergency and specialty care close to home.

Carilion and Landmark Healthcare Facilities LLC will jointly own the addition. Landmark will serve as its developer and property manager.
