LOW MOOR, VA. (VR)  — Lightning struck — literally — but it was the Alleghany Cougars who brought the real thunder Thursday night. After a 30-minute lightning delay, the Cougars exploded onto the field and never let up, demolishing their opponent 6-1 in a match packed with energy, grit, and highlight-reel moments from every corner of the roster.

From the opening whistle, it was clear: Alleghany came to make a statement. And it all started with Brenden Seckner, who lit the spark with a moment of sheer brilliance. A defender by trade, Seckner went rogue — and fans loved it. He surged from the back line, slicing through the midfield like a hot knife through butter, and hammered home the opening goal with authority. Electric.

Then the spotlight turned to Ethan Phillips — cool, composed, and commanding. With the weight of the game on his shoulders, Phillips stepped up for a penalty kick and buried it. No hesitation. No doubt. But that was just the beginning. Phillips ran the midfield like a maestro, controlling tempo, setting the tone, and proving he’s one of the most dangerous playmakers in the district.

And the goals kept coming.

Kevin Worley delivered one of the rarest gems in soccer — a direct goal from a corner kick. Yes, you read that right. With pinpoint precision and a wicked curve, Worley bent the ball straight into the net and sent the stadium into a frenzy. He added two assists as well, putting on a complete performance worthy of the spotlight.

Then came the finishing touches — and the Cougars had plenty of them. Kevin Valencia showed off his killer instincts, slicing through defenders to add another tally to the board. Austin Greene brought hustle and fire, crashing into the box and hammering in a goal that had the bench on its feet. And Mason Hale? Smooth, smart, and deadly — his finish capped off the night and sealed the Cougars’ domination.

Elvis Ramirez added a crisp assist, while the defense held strong, and keeper James Helmintoller-Quantz made a key save to keep the momentum locked in.

Fifteen shots. Six goals. One unforgettable night.
