Elnora David Tyler
Elnora Davis Tyler, age 93, of Covington, departed this life on Sunday, March 24 at the Brian Center of Alleghany in Low Moor.
Mrs. Tyler was born October 27, 1930, in Covington, and was preceded in death by her parents, the late Jesse Davis and Dorothy E. Davis; her husband, George Spellman Tyler, Sr., and two sisters, Elizabeth Holloway and Doris Pleasant.
Mrs. Elnora lived in Covington her entire life and was employed at the Holiday Inn. She was a very strong independent lady. In later years when she could no longer drive, you would see her walking everywhere without asking anyone to take her places and refusing a ride if asked. Mrs. Elnora lived in her house on Lexington Avenue alone until her health deteriorated and she had to go the Brian Center for care. She loved being a member of her church, Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ where she was the ‘Church Mother’ and a Missionary, participating in every church service and activity she was able to attend; not only at her church but it was common that she often visited other churches as well. Mrs. Elnora was also a member of the League of Older Americans. She greeted everybody with her beautiful smile, loved everyone and showered all with so much kindness.
Mother Tyler, as she was affectionally called by so many people, will lovingly be remembered by her four daughters, Eleanor Dooley, Phyllis Kaye James, Donna (Don) Billups of Covington, Sharon (Freddie) Jones of Roanoke; three sons, George (Cletha) Tyler, Jr. of Waco, Texas, Michael (Susie) Tyler of Covington, Maxwell Van Tyler of Phenix City, Alabama; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and so many friends in the city of Covington and beyond.
A funeral service will be held on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, at Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, at 2:00 P.M. with Elder Gregory (Pete) Moore, Sr., Mrs. Tyler’s beloved pastor officiating her service.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrit Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling service arrangements.
