COVINGTON, VIRGINIA – December 13, 2023 – The Covington mill recently announced that the 2023 Christmas Card competition winner is David Hayslett. His entry is an acrylic painting of Santa in his sleigh flying over the mill with his reindeer at night.
Hayslett received a monetary award for winning the contest, and his artwork is featured on the mill’s 2023 Christmas card which has been mailed to all employees and retirees, in addition to business and community leaders throughout the United States and abroad.
Artwork from Ginny Neil, Taylor Wolfe, and Heather Brooks will make up this year’s WestRock holiday greetings in the local media. Their artwork was chosen from the 40 entries in this year’s annual Christmas card competition.
Neil’s artwork was hand drawn, scanned, and collaged digitally with homemade digital papers. It depicts a person on a sleigh loaded with wood being pulled through the woods in the snow by horses. An old-time logging method.
Wolfe’s design was the No. 1 and 2 paper machine building covered in snow.
Brooks’ entry was done in acrylic paint featuring an old red loaded log truck beside a stream in the snowy Blue Ridge mountains.
Many thanks to the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center for their assistance and partnership with the mill for WestRock Christmas Card Contest.
