HOT SPRINGS – Following a remarkable season that saw the Bath County Chargers (9-2) football team win the most games in its program in 20 years, several of its players were named to the All-Pioneer District teams. 
 
Junior defensive standout Braiden Mabe was named the defensive district player of the year. 
 
During the 2023 season, Mabe, finished third on the Chargers with 77 total tackles, with 33 of those being tackles for a loss. Mabe also had seven sacks. The junior also had five forced turnovers.
 
Mabe was one of six Chargers that were named to the All-District first team. Andrew Turner was named to two offensive first-team positions, while Bransen Gordon was named to both offense and defensive first-teams. Ethan Bryant was named to both the first and second teams. 
 
The first team all-district included Wyatt Campbell (QB), Luke Hooker (OL), Gordon (TE/DL), Turner (WR/K), Mabe (DL), and Bryant (LB).
 
Representing the Chargers on the districts all-second team; Klayden Crawford (OL), Luke Turner (RB), Bryant (KR), Asa Altizer (DL), and Cooper Lowry (DB).
 
Dillan Royer, Mason Phillips, Hunter Waldeck, and Bryson Whiting were all honorable mentions. 
 
Meanwhile, second year head coach, Jake Phillips, who led the Chargers to one of the most successful seasons in the last 20 years was named the districts coach of the year. Phillips, in two seasons as head coach at BCHS has a win/loss record of 13-9. The Chargers went 4-7 in his first season.
 
Kolier Pruett from Narrows was named the district offensive player of the year.
