BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. – On April 8, 2026, deputies with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Lee Highway that resulted in the seizure of illegal narcotics and cash.
During the stop, K9 Nuka alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Deputies subsequently conducted a search and located approximately 146 grams of methamphetamine, along with $501 in U.S. currency.
Both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody:
Charles Wright Jr., 44, of Covington, VA, was charged with:
Possession with Intent to Distribute (3rd or Subsequent Offense)
Conspiracy to Distribute
Morgan Wood, 31, of Covington, VA, was charged with:
Possession with Intent to Distribute

The James River Regional Drug Task Force (JRRDTF) and the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force worked in close collaboration with this seizure demonstrating a unified enforcement effort to remove dangerous drugs from our communities. The James River Regional Drug Task Force is comprised of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Lexington Police Department, the City of Buena Vista Police Department, the Town of Bedford Police Department and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Division 6, Salem Field Office.
