Robert “Bob” Norman Gardiner
Robert “Bob” Norman Gardiner, age 82, formerly of Low Moor, Virginia, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.
Bob was born on November 26th, 1940 to John Edgar and Carmen Archambault Gardiner in Sherbrook, Quebec, Canada, where he grew up. Bob served in the Royal Canadian Army before marrying his first wife, Jill, in 1968. The marriage produced his “two girls,” which he spoke of often. With his charismatic personality, he worked as a salesman before finding his passion as an underground hardrock miner which brought the family from Ontario, Canada to Montana, New Mexico, and Utah.
Bob’s second marriage to Rolande in 1996 took him on adventures as an over-the-road trucker. This job allowed them to travel across Canada and the US multiple times, and they eventually settled in Clifton Forge, Virginia. It was here that Bob rediscovered his faith and became an active parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
In 2004, a new chapter started for Bob with his third marriage to Sandra Vaughan Keough. This chapter of Bob’s life resulted in many memories with family and friends and the addition of Bob’s “little buddy,” Levi. Bob and Levi had a special bond that was obvious to everyone. They shared a love of nature which resulted in many adventures “up on the mountain.”
Bob will be remembered for many things. He was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever and however he could. He loved all things Canadian including hockey and dressed chips. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and making us laugh.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his godson Bobby, his sister Louise, and his wife Sandra.
Bob is survived by his two daughters: Christine Gardiner (Kyle) of Montana, and Tina Babcock (Don) of Chesapeake; grandson Nathan Babcock; and great-grandson Levi Adkins.
Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clifton Forge on Saturday, November 11th at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Bob’s memory.
