GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Law enforcement officers are searching for an armed fugitive in Greenbrier County. Sheriff Bruce Sloan released the following statement.
“On Saturday, October 28, 2023, at approximately 11:15 pm, Deputy S.H. Peacock, of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a pickup truck on Russellville Road. The pickup truck refused to stop and fled from the officer. Deputy H. Rodriguez subsequently joined in behind Deputy Peacock and the passenger in the truck discharged multiple gunshots in the direction of the officer’s cruisers.
“The pickup truck continued to flee into the Bellburn area where the passenger exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area. Deputy Peacock and Deputy Rodriguez were then able to secure the driver and the pickup truck. Multiple agencies responded to the area in an attempt to locate the passenger and those attempts have proven to be unsuccessful to date.
“The passenger, identified as Travis Devonte Fernatt, age 25 of Crichton, WV, is described as a black male, 5’9” tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds, photograph attached. He was reportedly wearing a dark blue hoodie with black pants.
“Warrants have been obtained charging Travis Fernatt with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony and a court capias. Fernatt reportedly has connections in the state of North Carolina and Kentucky.
“Travis Fernatt is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information regarding the possible location of Fernatt is asked to contact the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s office at 681-318-3493 or 304-392-6320, or the Greenbrier County 911 Center.”
