The Alleghany Humane Society, located on 9313 Rich Patch Road in Covington, is in constant need of supplies for the many cats and dogs they shelter. As such, we have partnered with them to host a donation drive for the everyday necessities they require to give these homeless pets the best care possible. These donation items include (as per the Alleghany Humane Society):

1. Squeaky toys and balls for the dogs and cats

2. Dog treats and “Temptations” cat treats

3. Purina Dog Chow Complete

4. Purina Kitten Chow (in the yellow bag)

5. Purina Cat Chow (in the blue bag)

6. Alpo or Pedigree canned dog food

7. Friskies canned cat food

8. Monetary support

It is our goal to assist the Alleghany Humane Society in raising 500 items and we are asking for the community’s help and support. If you are able to donate any of the above-listed items, please bring them down to the Virginian Review office located at 201 West Locust Street in Covington. We will be recording the items as they come in and bringing them over to the Alleghany Humane Society at a later date. We thank the community in advance for your kind donations.

Additionally, the Alleghany Humane Society is always looking for loving families willing to open their homes to a new furry family member. From now until October 15th, Bissell is sponsoring the “Empty the Shelters” event which allows pets from our local shelter to be rehomed at a lower-than-average cost. Currently, all pets can be adopted for $25 per animal. Typically, prices are $45 for cats, $75 for medium-large mixed breed dogs, $100 for pure-bred, and $25 for senior dogs.

All animals who are adopted from the Alleghany Humane Society have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. They seek only to love and find their fur-ever homes.

To begin the adoption process, one should visit https://alleghanyhumane.org/ to view available pets and fill out the adoption form. Once it has been reviewed and approved, an appointment will then be made to visit the animal and finalize the adoption process.

Please call the Alleghany Humane Society at 540-862-2436 for additional information or visit their Facebook page. For further information on our donation drive, please stop by our office or call us at 540-962-2121. Thanks again!
