It’s that time of the year where we start talking about playoffs and potential playoff matchups.
On Tuesday, the Virginia High School League (VHSL) released their first power ratings of the season.
Some might be asking what’s so significant about the power ratings. The power ratings determine who qualify for postseason play and their playoff seeding in each region.
Each week, there will be a new power rating released by the VHSL until the final games of the season when they’ll determine the final rankings and matchups.
If the season were to have ended today, in the Class 1, Region C playoffs the unbeaten 5-0 Bath County Chargers would be the three-seed where they would host Fort Chiswell. The top two-seeds belong to Grayson County and Narrows.
Meanwhile, out in the Class 3, Region 3C, the newly formed Alleghany Cougars (4-1) would be the sixth seed playing on the road against Rustburg. Liberty Christian Academy and Turner Ashby are currently the top two seeds in the region.
There’s still lots of football to be played and these rankings will change up and down throughout the remainder of the season.
You can see the full rankings on the VHSL website.
