Kim Halterman, Superintendent of Schools at Alleghany Highlands gave a very informative and educational program during the September meeting of the Clifton Forge Woman’s Club.
Kim has an impressive resume which is noted in the yearbook. She took over the merger of the Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Public Schools, and Jackson River Technical Center in July 2022. Her slide presentation was excellent in explaining all that went into this enormous challenge. After the question and answer period, she noted areas where the community could help. She said the two biggest challenges are truancy, which is about 25 percent, and writing skills. Anyway you can encourage or help in these areas would enrich the school system and our area. Guess we have to put on our thinking caps! (Photo courtesy Clifton Forge Woman’s Club)
