CHARLESTON, W.Va. — COVID-19 cases are again on the rise in West Virginia, after the state reported a modest decrease in numbers earlier in the week.
Friday, West Virginia was reporting 1,604 active cases, with 165 occurring since Thursday.
“These are the numbers we don’t want to have,” Gov. Jim Justice said, while holding a Friday media briefing.
The governor said Kanawha County had surpassed Monongalia County in having the highest number of active cases in the state.
Friday, Kanawha County had 253 active cases. The case count in Monongalia County had dropped to 231. At one point, Monongalia County had 394 cases.
Outbreaks of COVID-19 were being reported in eight churches in the state, affecting 125 people.
Eighty-eight people were hospitalized throughout the state on Friday. The death toll in West Virginia since the pandemic began now stands at 103.
