On Tuesday, Aug. 29, Covenant Christian Academy, located at 1601 Chestnut Street in Clifton Forge, will hold a dedication and ribbon-cutting event. This is a free event open to the community and will run from 3 p.m.-6 p.m.

The dedication will kick things off and will be immediately followed by a ribbon cutting. Local pastors and church members from all walks of life are urged to join this three-hour-long event which will include a prayer over the school and all those who dwell within it.

Additionally, there will be an open house for the community to come in, walk around, and take a tour of the building that was formerly “Oak Hill Bible Church.” Cake and refreshments will be served during the event.

Covenant Christian Academy was originally founded in 2018 by Angela Howdershelt in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church in Clifton Forge. A year later, the faith-based private school moved to Longdale Furnace up until the end of the school year last year. Since their move, they have added several new students and a new secretary: Leslie Young. Young is also a mother to three of the students enrolled at Christian Faith Academy.

In addition to Young, Pastor David Hanks, Angela Howdershelt, Bill Wade, Pastor Dave Maddy, and Ms. Maureen Stec. are a few of several volunteers who work together as a well-oiled machine to make Covenant Christian Academy a success. Even the students are heavily involved in the school. One student, Amelia Ledford, designed the lion mascot that represents Covenant Christian Academy.

A mix of homeschooling and public school, Covenant Christian Academy stands apart. Not only are they the only school in the area to offer French with a French teacher (who speaks fluent French) and ASL on-site, but they are also the only school in the area to offer Theatre.

To offer help, the school is accepting donations for an upcoming yard sale on Aug. 26 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., or stop by and make a purchase. Monetary gifts are always welcome and can be made by calling Leslie Young at 540-862-1958 or via email at leslieycca@gmail.com.
