COVINGTON – One day after receiving a scheduled day off on Monday, July 17th, the Covington Lumberjacks (18-17) returned back to Casey Field for the second straight home doubleheader where they were swept by the Harrisonburg Turks.
Run support was an area that Harrisonburg were not lacking in for both games as the Turks outscored Covington 16-4 between both games.
With a 4-1 lead entering the top of the fifth inning, Harrisonburg busted the game open as they pushed across five runs to build a 9-1 lead. Chris Katz and Matthew Delgado each had two-run singles in the inning.
Covington, who only had a total of nine hits in their last doubleheader on Sunday, July 16th, finished with seven in game one. Michael Pavelchak and Chenar Brown each had two hits for the Lumberjacks, while Brown and Ronny Medina each had an RBI.
The loss was charged to Edgar Rodriguez who allowed four runs on two hits in 1.2 innings. Jacob Heath, Tanner Walker, and Pavelchak each saw time on the mound out of the bullpen in game one of the doubleheader. Pavelchak, who took the mound for the first time this season, pitched two shutout innings.
Harrisonburg never trailed in the game as they took control early on as they scored a pair of runs in each of the first and second innings. Katz had a game-high four RBI’s, including a two-run home run which happened in the top of the first inning.

In the second game of the doubleheader there was more of the same Harrisonburg offense that carried over into game two.
The Turks jumped on the Lumberjacks early with a six-run first inning which was highlighted by a two-run single.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the sixth inning where Covington, who trailed 7-0, cut into the deficit with a two-run inning. Chenar Brown and Christopher Alvarez had the team’s only two RBIs.
Jorge A. Garcia was charged with the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) in two innings. Edinson Renteria also saw time on the mound, while so did Christopher Groenmans.
The Lumberjacks, who were held to just five during game two, saw production out of Chenar Brown who had two hits and an RBI. Alvarez was the only batter in the line with at least two RBI’s.
The two losses pushed the losing streak for Covington to three straight.
