On July 18, 2023, in the Alleghany County Circuit Court, Eugene Wayne Stinnett, 52, of Stuarts Draft, was sentenced to 60 years in prison to be suspended after serving a 15-year active sentence for computer solicitation of a minor.
Stinnett pled guilty to three counts of using a computer or other electronic means to solicit a person he believed to be a minor under the age of fifteen. Commonwealth’s Attorney, Ann Gardner, summarized the evidence against Stinnett for the Court.
Sgt. Jeremy Morris of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Department intercepted Stinnett’s online messages soliciting a person Stinnett believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The predatory messages included pornographic images and also proposed sexual activity. Stinnett discussed his plans to meet his intended victim in Clifton Forge; however, he never followed through. During his investigation, Morris was able to identify and locate Stinnett who was promptly arrested.
Once released from prison, Stinnett will remain on probation for the balance of 60 years. He is court-ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors and is prohibited from social media or internet use.
