COVINGTON – Following their third loss of the season to the Charlottesville TomSox, the Covington Lumberjacks returned to Casey Field for a double-header where they won game one with walk-off heroics.

With the score tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning and two runners on in scoring position and no outs, Christopher Watson ripped a game-ending walk-off RBI single for a 3-2 Covington victory.

Offensively the Lumberjacks were held to just four total hits as they had half their total in the inning during the seventh. Watson and Michael Pavelchak were the only batters in the lineup to reach base twice.

Covington had jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning behind a sacrifice fly out from Logan Braunsscheig.

Woodstock would claim a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a home run from Joe Jaconski and an RBI single from RJ Stinson.

The Rebels lead would be short lived as Jackson Toberman would tie the game up as hit a deep fly ball to right field for a sacrifice fly out.

Making just his second start on the mound, Jorge A. Garcia III pitched well for Covington as he allowed two runs on six hits, while walking one, and striking out three in four innings of his no-decision. Tanner Walker earned the win for the Lumberjacks as he threw three shutout innings out of the bullpen. Walker gave up two hits and struck out three.

Michael Pavelchak recorded his 10th stolen base of the season for Covington in the teams’ game one win.

Despite outhitting Covington 8-4, Woodstock left nine stranded on base in their loss.
