The 4th Annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show is in the history books and it was a grand event. The event was hosted Saturday, June 17 by the Alleghany Cruisers.
It was a beautiful day at the Jackson River Sports Complex and 112 show vehicles were on display. In addition, there were a large number of retail and civic vendors participating in the event. Law enforcement officers and equipment were present from the Virginia State Police, Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, Covington City Police Department, Bath County Sheriff’s Office, Roanoke County Police Department, and the Virginia Conservation Police. Several law enforcement demonstrations were also held.
The show saw record attendance this year with a large public crowd on hand nearly all day. Show vehicles traveled from as far away as Mountain Grover VA, Bedford VA, and Blacksburg VA to participate in the show.
A significant amount of money was raised for the Back the Blue Scholarship awarded each year to area high school seniors by the Alleghany Cruisers. Any area high school senior wishing to further their education in criminal justice or related fields is eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Saturday night a large crowd gathered at the River Rock Amphitheater for an outstanding performance by THE FREQUENCY. THE FREQUENCY, who are based in Salem VA performed an electrifying concert of classic rock and dance music. Along with Friday nights performances by ALIBI! and the Fender Benders Trio there was plenty of music for everyone to enjoy during the weekend.
