This year, the Virginian Review held its annual online event in which high school student-athletes —who demonstrated excellence in their sport— could be nominated and voted for. Participants included Bath County, Covington, and Alleghany in categories that included tennis, cheerleading, football, soccer, baseball, and golf, among others.
When it came to AHS Golf, Carter Wickline was untouchable. Not only was he nominated, but he won by a landslide, earning 75% of the votes while the other two participants split the remaining 25% between them.
Carter’s brother, Maddox Wickline, is also an athlete and was nominated for AHS Boys Cross Country.
On June 13th, the Virginian Review and West Virginia Daily News teams waited at the Jackson River Sports Complex, located at 870 W. Edgemont Dr. in Covington, for all winners and nominees to come to claim their awards. Eventually, Maddox arrived to accept Carter’s trophy on his behalf.
