RICHMOND — Richmond Public Schools are not playing sports this winter.
They won’t be playing football or volleyball next month either.
The school division announced Wednesday that they have opted out of Season 2 of the Virginia High School League championships +1 shortened season format.
A total of 30 school divisions — a number that includes 71 high schools — are not competing this winter according to the VHSL.
Five school divisions have already said that would not participate in fall sports.
Along with Richmond, they include Buckingham County, Mecklenburg County, Surry County and Sussex County.
