COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – An Alleghany County sheriff’s deputy has been fired after being arrested for a DUI.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, on April 1, Chief Deputy Matthew A. Bowser was arrested by the Virginia State Police and charged with DUI and refusal to take a blood/breath test.
“The Alleghany County and Covington Sheriff’s Office is saddened and disappointed with this event,” the press release said.
Bowser is no longer employed with Alleghany County and Covington Sheriff’s Office. The Virginia State Police is handling the investigation, which involved a crash, the press release said.
Bowser was released on his own recognizance and arraigned Monday, April 3.
