All-Pioneer district basketball teams announced

COVINGTON, Va. (TVR) – Last week the All-Pioneer District boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were announced, featuring 10 local student athletes.

Jayden Ryder headlined three Bath County Chargers on the all-district boys’ team as he was selected to the first team. Meanwhile, Andrew Turner was a second team selection, while Isaac Gwin was an honorable mention.

The Covington Cougars had seven boys and girls make it to the all-district teams. For the boys, Purcel Turner was a first team selection, while Desmond Jordan and J’yon Smith were second team selections. Jayden Sammons was an honorable mention. Lauren Bragg headlined the Lady Cougars basketball team as a first team selection, while Taylor Stayton and TyAieja Smith were each honorable mention.

The Narrows Green Waves boys’ basketball team featured the district player of the year and the coach of the year. Kolier Pruett was named the district player of the year and Patrick Bailey was the coach of the year.

The girls district player of the year was Parry McCluer’s Anna Claytor and Kelly Sutphin representing Eastern Montgomery was the coach of the year.
