COVINGTON, Va. (TVR) – After TV weather forecasts for the Alleghany Highlands called for 1-3 inches of snow for Sunday, March 12, the snowstorm validated forecasters by leaving an inch of snow as winter’s going away gift to spring.
The snow was mixed with sleet at times, leaving roadways slippery, but by noon, the main roads and secondary roads were not hazardous for drivers.
Many flowers had already bloomed, and numerous trees were displaying their blossoms before the unexpected snowstorm left them laced with snow.
By early afternoon, the wet snow turned to a light drizzle, and by the evening, the snowstorm had passed.
