Archery
HOT SPRINGS — Bath County Parks and Recreation will be offering archery classes, beginning Wednesday in Millboro and Thursday at Valley.
The course is open for all ages seven and older. Adults are welcome.
Classes will be offered at the Millboro facility on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and at Valley on Thursday evening, also from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
When the time changes, the course will switch to Sunday evenings, alternating locations between Millboro and Valley.
Classes will begin with teaching the bow and arrow, parts, maintenance and safety.
The instructors will then work with each participant until they are comfortable with the student’s ability and safety practices.
One instructor will run the range and will have total control of the range at all times.
Instructors will be teaching with recurve bows, compound bows and cross bows.
Targets will range from block targets to 3-D targets, with a 3-D tournament conducted for participants each six weeks at either the Valley or Millboro location.
At the present time due to COVID-19 restrictions, parks and recreation is not authorized to use school facilities, so all classes will be conducted outdoors and subject to weather.
Recreation staff will notify known participants and the radio station of any cancellations as early as possible on archery days. Parents will be asked to accompany children in case of a weather-related incident during the archery program.
COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. Students and instructors will be screened and have temperatures taken and recorded. Students will be required to wear face coverings, while instructors will be required to wear cloth masks and gloves when in contact with any student.
Social distancing practices will be followed when practical.
