              Dear Editor,                                          January 2023

Gavin Haynes was a model student-athlete 20 years ago at Alleghany High School in Covington, Virginia, USA. before he was the same at Emory & Henry college in S.W.Va. He was a highly respected teacher and coach at his high school alma mater before he was exposed.

This reminds me of the main character in the movie The Craigslist Killer. It was based on a true story of a 3rd-year medical student. He had everything going for him and yet he threw it all away to commit sex crimes. In the end, he explained that he felt the need to be punished. One has to wonder if Gavin Haynes did not feel the same psychological compulsions due to these “demons”.

If Haynes is indeed guilty, he should be allowed to serve his time in a confined setting that is both safe and humane. Hopefully there will be no profiteering over this heinous matter.

Haynes pleaded guilty to voluntarily having sex with a minor. He was not convicted of rape or anyone type of forceful activity. With victims’ accounts of excursions for a protracted period of time, one has to ask what the roles of the parents, school staff, and even victims were?

It takes two to tango. A pre-teen should be totally absolved but a teenager who is physical mature(boy or girl) and his/her family need to understand that there are consequences for any behaviour that is voluntary.

That student’s family could be charged for criminal neglect as they have parental responsibilities. A teenage student who is close to adulthood and is physically mature could be charged with a misdemeanor for being a voluntary participant. Many nations have laws that emphasize responsibility from all parties. Perhaps the USA should adapt such laws. This would definitely make certain that commission of crimes such of this nature would be significantly reduced. The concept of victimhood needs to be less fostered. Instead, prevention must be the central focus. When all are warned of the consequences, only then will behaviour change.

              Very Truly Yours,

Oh yes because he deserves special treatment after conditioning these GIRLS. All the victims did not go to trial because he scared them. He was the adult period. He should have received more time or at least had to serve what he got in jail. He is a pedophile and deserves the same treatment as everyone else. That is what is wrong with our justice system. He did the crime and definitely deserves to do all of his time in general population like he normally would have to do.

There are laws that punish underage people for consuming alcohol. Why should voluntary sexual activity be treated any differently unless that individual is a pre-teen?

When spitball use or raising one’s voice to a teacher is not tolerated but being voluntarily sexual intimate with an adult school staffer is, there lies the real root of the problem.

Too the writer of this article your statements in this are plain ignorant, while yes it does take “two to tango” as you put it, the people he had contact with and did this to were all still minors which means their frontal lobe of the brain has not fully developed incase you didn’t know that means that critical thinking and judgment based decisions are not all the way there. Gavin Haynes was a grown man when he made the decision to have sex with under age girls he is the one that thought it was a great idea to do that so that is all on him he was supposed to be a trusted person in a school system but instead he was using his position and authority and basically used that against them girls to sleep with them, he used that to his advantage so they wouldn’t automatically go and tell someone. Also with you saying the victims and the parents of the victims (and yes they are victims) should be charged you are so wrong I can almost guarantee that these recent charges isn’t the first time this has happened he’s probably the one that was 16 tryna to get with a 12 year old or the 18 year old trying to get with a 14 year old this is just the first time that he is actually being held accountable for his nasty and just pure vile actions if any one should as be getting charged it’s his parents because they have probably been covering for him for a long time and now they finally couldn’t because of how much there was to cover up you lose track of your lies eventually. With you making this article you are showing your own ignorance if he has so many “demons” then maybe at this point they need to lock him up in an institution and never let him out.

This is outrageous!!! “Physically mature” = it has boobs, so let’s party!? It’s not about physicality, it’s about consent and the right to do so! And pointing out repeatedly that it is a “teenage minor” is a blatant, and disgusting, attempt to shift blame to the victim of this crime, and absolve the perpetrator! Who cares what his GPA was? I wouldn’t trust this man with a cat. Who defends a person who uses his position to prey on children? We don’t punish victims for being a victim! The person responsible for this action is Gavin Haynes, and only Gavin Haynes.

For the last time, any adult who has sexual activity with a minor must be punished. How many times do I need to day the same thing over again?
Laws that penalize teen minors for sexual activities with adults actually protect them. If a teen minor is compelled to think twice and thrice, knowing he/she could and would face legal consequences, before committing such an act, it would provide a sufficient incentive for that teen minor to just say no. This in itself would drastically reduce these activities.
Teen minors, who will be adults within a few years’ time, must know and understand that all actions have consequences. Any teen minor should be required to know that voluntary sexual activity between a teen minor and an adult is legally impermissible.
