Kiera Lowman dominated the cross country track season for the Alleghany Mountaineers.
And she’s back doing more of the same with the indoor track season.
At the Liberty Flames High School Invitational this past Saturday at Liberty University, Lowman was one of five Mountaineers who qualified for the state championship meet this coming March.
Lowman qualified by finishing 21 seconds ahead of the state qualifying time as she placed eighth over in the girls 1600 meter run finishing with a time of 5:35. Charlotte Bell of Cuthbertson High School finished first with a time of 4:47.84.
Along with Lowman, Drew Craft, Dalton Griffith, Connor McPeek, and Brady Prior each qualified for the state meet for their performance in the boys 4×200 relay race. The team met the state meet marker by just over three seconds as they finished with a time of 1:36.90. The state meet standard to qualify is 1:40.47. The boys relay team finished 12th at the invitational, while Cuthbertson finished first with a time of 1:29.11
Meanwhile, the Covington Cougars have only one athlete on their roster this season. Freshman, Elijah Fasig, placed 71st in the long jump with a score height of 14-5. While Fasig is the only varsity athlete on the Cougars roster, the team will have four eighth graders that will be a part of the regular season meets.
There was a total of 66 schools competing at the event on Saturday.
Both schools will be on the track tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. at Roanoke College for the Holiday Track Classic.
