Winning entries were announced following the Clifton Forge Christmas Parade that proceeded east on Ridgeway St. from the Dairy Queen onto Main St. and past the Clifton Forge Town Hall on Fri., Dec. 2.
Hamilton Roots, Four Moons Designs and Country Garden Florist provided the three judges who selected Kars Unlimited for “Most Creative Entry.
The parade got underway at 6:00 p.m. with Parade Marshall Barry Balser leading the way. Balser is the retired police chief of the Town of Clifton Forge.
The judges selected Clifton Forge Little League as “Judges’ Favorite.”
Lewis Gale Hospital-Alleghany won the “Best Float, and Immanuel Baptist Church was awarded “Best Religious Float.”
Alleghany High School’s JV and varsity cheerleaders won the “Best Private Vehicle” with two privately owned trucks as entries, and Alleghany High School’s band received the “Best Marching Unit.”
Laura Ferris took home the “Best Animal” award, and the Rebels of Rhythm was selected as the “Best Clogging” entry.
Garlynda’s Fancy Feet Dance Studio-Float with Dancers won the “Dance” entry.
The Iron Gate Fire Department took home the “Best Public Vehicle” title over public vehicle entries from Hot Springs, Sharon, Craigsville, Selma, Dunlap, Covington, Buena Vista, Clifton Forge and the Virginia Department of Forestry.
Clifton Forge Mayor Jeff Irvine and Councilwoman Debbie Laudermilk were wearing Santa caps and handing out wrapped candy along the parade route.
Town Manager Charles “Chuck” Unroe observed the parade from the Primis Bank’s drive-through area overlooking the area of Ridgeway St. where a water valve has recently been replaced, rendering a dry parade route on a cool evening.
