CLIFTON FORGE—Appalfolks of America Association (AAA) based in Clifton Forge tied the Equine Cushing’s and Insulin Resistance Group in Tempe, Ariz. for 35th place out of 265 nationwide small nonprofit competitors.
On Giving Tuesday Mighty Cause, 51,813 donors in 50 states responded by donating $13,930,653 to small nonprofit organizations competing for prize money.
AAA launched its Giving Tree Fund Drive in August to coincide with Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, and by combining the donations from the fund drive with the $250 donated on Tuesday, AAA’s total of $2,600 left the nonprofit tied for 35th place.
Not counting the early fund drive donations, AAA finished in 165th place out of the 265 small nonprofit organizations that registered for the competition.
Twenty-two donors provided $2,600 to AAA compared to the 29 donors that provided $2,600 to Equine Cushing’s and Insulin Resistance Group.
Donors from the following five states contributed to AAA: Va., S.C., Ga., Ala. and Ky.
A small nonprofit organization is defined by the amount of its annual budget. An organization that has $100,000 or more in its annual budget competes in Giving Tuesday Mighty Cause’s large nonprofit category. One with less than $100,000 competes in the small nonprofit category.
Twenty percent of the donations received by AAA during the fund drive and the Giving Tuesday Mighty Cause event came from out of state, and 80% of the donations were received from Va. donors.
