27 Miners Die In Explosion In West Virginia
The little mining camp of Glen Rodgers grieved today over the death of 27 of its citizens, victims of a gas explosion in one entry of the Raleigh-Wyoming Coal Company’s mine just as the men started to work yesterday. Sixty-three men “checked in” at the mine mouth, and only the fact that the mine was equipped with the most modern of ventilating systems saved the 36 survivors from sharing the fate of the 27 in the doomed entry. No cause could be assigned by officials for the explosion.

Russians Display New Weapons In Parade
The Soviet Union celebrated its 470th anniversary today with a parade through Red Square of new weapons to give its armed forces greater mobility and more rocket power. In a swift march past leaders of the Communist world, the annual Nov. 7 parade showed new heavy armor including a pair of long-distance missiles, one of an estimated 70-foot length.

Democrats Seek Job Program
The nation’s 10.4 percent unemployment rate is prompting renewed calls by Democrats in Congress and labor leaders for enactment of a public works program. But the Reagan administration is refusing to budge in its resistance to any such New Deal type initiative.

Members of the Central High School Class of 1952 held their 55th-year reunion in September at Best Western in Covington.
