Thelma Sue Haynes,72, of 2408 S. Carpenter Dr. died Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond.
Mrs. Haynes was born November 24, 1949, in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Olen Madison Thompson and Thelma Francis Graham Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Alania Fridley and “little” Ray Robinson; four sisters, Katherine Guillam, Mary Graham, Sally Clinebell and Vada Thompson; two brothers, Olen Thompson, Jr. and Frank Thompson.
Before retirement, Thelma was a receptionist for the U.S. Forest Service. She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church. In her spare time, she loved doing artistic things, was a wonderful singer and an avid Hummingbird watcher.
Surviving are husband, Mark Steven Haynes of Covington; four daughters, Cheryl Gonzalez (Fabio) of Warrington; Cindy Robinson (Ray) of Roanoke, Crissy Smith (Robert Baldwin) of Warm Springs; and Whitney Stanley (Joseph) of Clifton Forge; seven grandchildren, Grace, Brandon, Josiah; Kleigh, Jude, Isiah, and Nevaeh; one brother, Van Thompson of Hot Springs and Virginia Biggs (Timmy) of Hot Springs; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog and three cats.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Earwood officiating.
The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive their friends on Saturday before the service from noon until service time at the funeral home.
