Covington, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Highlands Early Learning Partnership (A.H.E.L.P.) will sponsor two free early literacy outreach events for area families with children ages 0-4. The first program is scheduled for October 17th at the Jackson River Sports Complex, and the second for October 18th at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts. Both programs begin at 6:00 pm.
The “Storytime and Songs” events focus on early literacy, early learning, and preschool opportunities in the Alleghany Highlands. Both events will feature a concert by Mike and Mary Anderson, children’s recording artists from Charlottesville, Virginia. The Anderson’s use music and stories as the joyful pathway to learning for young children, while integrating fun ways to master learning standards for literacy, math, and social emotional learning.
The events will also offer free food for participating families, as well as story, craft, and game stations for children to enjoy. Representatives from the Alleghany Highlands Public Schools and the YMCA Early Learning Center will be on-hand to answer any questions regarding local preschool opportunities. Representatives from local early literacy support organizations will also participate in the programs.
For more information or questions about the events, please call the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library at 540-962-3321.
