Girl Jail Breaker Faces New Charge
Veneida Smith, whose two sensational escapes from the Wood County jail about a year ago, when she was held there on a charge of horse stealing, attracted attention to this young girl, is again in the limelight. Since being locked up in the same prison a few nights ago, on a disorderly charge, a saw and file have been found concealed in her shoes, and Sheriff W.T. Cochran has sworn out a warrant charging her with jailbreaking, dating back to last year. She has never tried on the horse stealing charge.

Election Will Be Tuesday At Westvaco Mill
The National Labor Relations Board has released rules and regulations which are to govern the election to be participated in by the employees of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company Tuesday, September 28. Given as the purpose of the election is the determination as to whether or not the employees of the company desire to be represented by the International Brotherhood of Pulp, Sulphite & Paper Mill Workers Local No 152, by the Employees Protective Association or neither, for the purpose of collective bargaining.

Log Home Burns At Boiling Springs Contents Total Loss
A five-room log dwelling at Boiling Springs burned to the ground Tuesday afternoon, destroying all furniture and other contents. The fire was in the home of Mrs. Demaris Persinger, who lived there with her son. No one was in the house when the fire broke out and there were no injuries. Firemen said the origin of the fire is unknown but it appears to have started in the kitchen.

Alleghany Highlands Pageant Tonight
Leola Huffman, Miss Alleghany Highlands will crown the new queen tonight at Alleghany High School during the Miss Alleghany Highlands Pageant. Nine contestants will compete in talent, evening gown and swimsuit events, Emcees for the evening are Susan Parker, Miss Virginia 1984, Tammy Scruggs and Denny Tincher of WKEY. The Miss Alleghany Highlands Pageant is sponsored by the Covington Junior Woman’s Club.

Amphitheatre Stage Named
In the photo below, Bill Cook, center, is honored by Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation President John Hillert, right, Sunday. Hillert announced that the Masonic Amphitheatre stage would be named “Bill Cook & Friends Amphitheatre Stage.” The location of the amphitheatre was made possible in part by a donation from Cook, when he donated the land to the Clifton Forge Masonic Theatre. At left is one of Cook’s “friends,” Dr. David Crandall.
