The Summer Music Series continues at the Masonic Amphitheatre with RAISED ON BLUEGRASS on Saturday, September 10 beginning at 5:00 pm. Bent Mountain Trio and Whisky Rebellion will bring their music to the Amphitheatre stage and Bluegrass reigns supreme.
Bent Mountain Trio will begin at 5:00 pm. Members of Charlottesville-based Bent Mountain Trio include: Bubba Beasley – Guitar, Vocals; Peter LaBau – Banjo, Dobro, Vocals; and Mark Goldstein – Bass, Vocals. The Bent Mountain Trio provides the perfect musical backdrop for the beautiful Blue Ridge and Alleghany mountains. Serving up a mix of old-time bluegrass and roots music they like to call “cocktailgrass”, these long-time musical friends combine expert picking and rich vocal harmonies to capture the spirit of music and celebration that brings so many to this beautiful part of the country.
The Bent Mountain Trio specializes in providing acoustic music for stages and ceremonies that is elegant and refined without being stuffy. They then set the tone for toe-tapping Bluegrass and other acoustic favorites for audience members while the sun sets. Taken together, it’s the ideal musical accompaniment for a rustic Virginia evening.
Whiskey Rebellion will take the stage at 7:00 pm. Skillful picking and expert three-part harmonies are just part of what you can expect from the Whiskey Rebellion, who have been playing their brand of high-energy acoustic music across the Southeast and as far west as the Pacific Ocean for the last eight years.
The band has recorded two regionally-acclaimed original albums, shared the stage with the Sam Bush Band and Carolina Chocolate Drops, and had their 2011 tour of the Pacific Northwest captured by filmmaker Tony Morin for a concert film and documentary. Drawing on their diverse musical backgrounds, The Whiskey Rebellion mix the spontaneity of bluegrass, the collectiveness of jazz, and the urgency of rock and roll to create their own unique take on everything from traditional bluegrass to anthemic party favorites. The band covers a wide array of artists ranging from The Beatles to The Talking Heads to Guns ‘n’ Roses, but their approach is always steeped in their acoustic roots and uniquely lends itself to being both listenable and danceable.
