On “Championship Friday”, the Bath County Chargers athletic program had an opportunity to win two Pioneer District Championships.
Unfortunately, the Chargers girls tennis team (7-7) and varsity boys soccer team (11-4-1) lost in their district tournament finals.
For the boys soccer team, the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs had their number.
In the fourth meeting between the two teams this season, the Mustangs finished 2-1-1 against the Chargers.
It was just days before where the Chargers defeated the Mustangs on the road to clinch the regular season championship.
Days later, the Mustangs returned the favor with a 3-1 victory in the championship game.
The Mustangs grabbed three early first half goals that put away the Chargers and held them to the one lone goal in the second half.
The Chargers will be back on the soccer field this Thursday when the teams hosts their regional tournament game at 6:00 p.m.
In the girls tennis, the Chargers entered their district tournament championship with the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues having lost all three of their regular season meetings with them.
After losing their first meeting back in the middle of April 8-1, the Chargers kept the next two meetings close, losing 4-3.
Much like the regular season, the Fighting Blues got the better of the Chargers, winning 5-3 in the district championship game.
Next up for the girls tennis team, the regional tournament. The Chargers host Grayson County Monday at noon.
