There are a several things to “watch out for” this weekend and they all happen today.
It’s CHAMPIONSHIP Friday.
All three area schools have the opportunity at winning one or two district championships this evening.
FIVE district tournament championships are on the line this evening.
The Covington Cougars host the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues in the varsity softball Pioneer District Tournament Championship game. Just days ago, the Cougars defeated the Fighting Blues 7-3 in a one-game playoff for the regular season district title.
Meanwhile just miles up the road, the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers JV softball team hosts Floyd County for the Three Rivers District Tournament Championship. The Lady Mounties are currently 16-0 and won both of their regular season matchups with Floyd. Also, the JV boys baseball team plays at Carroll County against the Cavaliers for the Pioneer District Tournament Championship. The two teams split games during the regular season.
The Bath County Chargers girls tennis team plays the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues at 4:00 p.m. for the Pioneer District Championship. The Chargers defeated Narrows 5-3 to advance to the title game. During the regular season the Fighting Blues had the Chargers number as they went 3-0 against them. In boys varsity soccer, the Chargers will play the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs for the Pioneer District Title. On Monday, the Chargers defeated the Mustangs 3-2 to win the regular season district title. In three matchups during the regular season, the Chargers and Mustangs were 1-1-1.
Today will make for quite the day on championship Friday.
