FISHERSVILLE, Va. (VR) –  Faith Barron recorded a top-10 finish Wednesday as Alleghany High School competed in the Class 3 Region C Cross Country Championships at Wilson Memorial High School.

Barron placed ninth in the girls race with a time of 20:34.70, leading the Cougars to a seventh-place team finish with 179 points.

Barron’s performance earned her All-Region honors and a spot in the upcoming Class 3 State Cross Country Championships.

“Several of the girls ran great races but as a team, we didn’t finish where we had hoped and we know we are capable of a lot more. We are really proud of Faith Barron for running a gritty race, qualifying for state and finishing all region.”  Alleghany head coach Jeremy Bartley said.

Harrisonburg’s Brooke Saunders won the individual championship in 18:18.20, followed by Spotswood’s Haley Mancini in second at 19:37.20 and Peyton Joyner in third at 19:48.60.

Turner Ashby’s Emmy Douglas finished fourth in 19:59.80, while Western Albemarle’s Arbour Cole placed fifth in 20:06.40.

Alleghany’s Maggie Hensley finished 36th in 22:28.90, followed closely by Annebelle Williams in 37th at 22:29.80.

Willow Morgan placed 50th in 23:30.20, while Adrienne Downs finished 59th in 24:13.70. Madilyn Via followed in 60th at 24:18.10, and Charlotte Taylor rounded out Alleghany’s girls finishers in 62nd with a time of 21:41.80.

On the boys side, Alleghany finished ninth in the team standings, with Cole Bowser leading the Cougars in 37th place with a time of 17:54.80.

Lincoln Rosales finished 48th in 18:18.60, followed by Maddox Hale in 53rd at 18:36.00.

Levi Bartley placed 66th in 18:54.70, while Braedan Lemons finished 77th in 19:49.00. Nolan Rosales followed in 81st at 20:04.80, and Levi Wilkerson placed 99th in 23:19.40.

“On the boys side, most of the team improved. Our top 4 are all underclassmen and we are looking forward to the next several years and seeing what they are capable of,” Bartley said.

Western Albemarle took the top two spots in the boys race, with Noah Kaminstein winning the regional championship in 16:06.60. Teammate Christopher De Wekker finished second in 16:10.10.

Rockbridge County’s Leif Guse placed third in 16:11.60, followed by Turner Ashby’s Bryce Driver in fourth at 16:16.00. Western Albemarle’s Ethan Apicella rounded out the top five in 16:23.90.

Wilson Memorial’s Julian Galiano finished sixth in 16:26.30, followed by Broadway’s Max Fletcher in seventh at 16:30.30 and Peyton Allen in eighth at 16:30.40.

The regional championships came one week after Alleghany’s girls finished second and the boys placed fourth at the Shenandoah District Championships at the Jackson River Sports Complex.

Barron will continue her season at the Class 3 State Cross Country Championships.
