The Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (9-2-2) bounced back in a big way following their 1-1 tie at home last Thursday with the Radford Bobcats. On Monday, the Lady Mounties took their tie out on the Floyd County Buffaloes as the team cruised by with an 8-0 victory.
The Lady Mounties never gave the Buffaloes a chance as the team collected seven of their eight goals coming in the first half.
It was a collective effort from the Lady Mounties who finished with five players scoring goals.
Kinley Eggleston, surpassed the 30 goal mark as she finished tied for a game-high of two goals made in the win. The Lady Mounties senior, now has 31 goals on the season. Her 31 goals has her tied for the 91st most in all of the country. In the win, Eggleston, also had one assist.
Meanwhile, sophomore, Abby Williams, finished tied with Eggleston for a game-high two goals. The two goals made by Williams, was her first of the season. Williams, currently leads the team in steals with 36.
Seniors, Carlee Lanford & Anne Fu, and junior, Lucy Nicely, each had a goal. It was Fu’s first goal of the season, while the goal for Lanford, ended a drought of four games without a made goal. She has 12 on the season.
For senior goalkeeper, Emma Williams, she picked up her ninth shutout of the season. The Lady Mounties are 8-0-1 in shutout games this season.
The Lady Mounties swept the regular season series with the Buffaloes. On April 14th, the Lady Mounties scored a season-high 12 goals in a 12-0 victory.
The Lady Mounties will be back on the soccer field this evening when the team travels to take on the 10-2 Glenvar Highlanders. The last time the two teams met was on April 19th. The Lady Mounties shutout the Highlanders 7-0 at Mountaineer Field. Eggleston, had a season-high six goal in the win while Williams finished with 16 saves.
