In the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (2-1) varsity girls soccer home opener, the team cruised to 5-0 shutout victory over the Stuarts Draft Cougars (1-1).
Coming off of a 2-1 loss to the Byrd Terriers on Tuesday, the Lady Mounties bounced back with two early first half goals against the Cougars, before sealing the victory with three goals in the second half.
Seniors, Kinley Eggleston and Carlee Lanford, each provided the Lady Mounties with two goals each. Meanwhile, fellow senior, Ashtyn Bishop, had provided one goal in the teams win. On the season, Eggleston and Lanford each lead the team in goals with six. Lanford, had the lone goal in Tuesday’s loss against the Terriers.
The Lady Mounties defense was a defensive nightmare for the Cougars. The Lady Mounties had 15 total steals in the win. The team was led by sophomore, Abby Williams, who had a team-high five steals, while fellow sophomore, Breanna Phillips, had three steals for the Lady Mounties. Seven other Lady Mounties had one steal each.
Senior goalkeeper, Emma Williams, finished the game with a shutout and shutdown victory as she had two saves on the evening in the victory. E. Williams, played all 80 minutes.
The two teams will meet up again on Monday with the Lady Mounties traveling to Stuarts Draft. Kickoff starts at 6:00 p.m.
