November 7, 1977- Clifton Forge's Les Tinsley catches a pass for good yardage and Covington's Donnell Ross makes the tackle during the Little Brown Jug football game Saturday night at Memorial Park in Clifton Forge. The prolonged rain stopped long enough for the game to be played and Covington kept possession of the jug by roaring to a 36-0 halftime lead and going on to win 42-6. Photo: Virginian Review

Backed by a 15-run third inning and a four RBI performance by Connor McPeek (2-for-4), the Alleghany Mountaineers (1-2) varsity baseball team picked up their first win of the season following their 22-1 road victory over the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues.

Anthony Webb (W), was the winning pitched in the game for the Mounties. Webb, pitched all five innings while giving up one run on seven hits and striking out four batters.

The Mounties offense was led by McPeek, who had a two-hit and four RBI performance. Andrew Middleton (2-for-2), Joe Ross (1-for-2), Garrett Via (1-for-3), Eli Weese (1-for-2), and Hunter DePriest (3-for-4) each had two RBI’s. DePriest, led the team with three hits in the win. The Mounties as team collected 15 hits.

Leading 4-1 entering the top of the third inning, the Mounties put together a 15-run inning to help the team cruise to their first win of the year.
