VIRGINIA STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING IN HIGHLAND COUNTY
HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. – The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Salem Field Office is investigating a shooting that occurred on Friday (March 11) in the 3000 block of Mill Gap Road in Highland County.
The incident began at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday. A 47-year-old Highland County man was standing in his driveway on Mill Gap Road and told state police investigators that the driver of a Jeep yelled obscenities at him as it drove by him. The Highland County resident got into his GMC van and pursued the Jeep.
Near the 100 block of Mill Gap Road, the Jeep’s driver, a 22-year-old male from Mineral, Va., fired a round at the GMC van. The Jeep continued on its way and was later stopped in West Virginia by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office. The driver and an adult female were taken into custody without incident. A handgun was recovered from the Jeep.
The Highland County resident was struck by the bullet and was flown to UVA Medical Center. He is still being treated for serious injuries.
The Highland County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the ongoing criminal investigation. Charges are pending.
