Last Thursday night, the Alleghany Mountaineers varsity volleyball team fell in four sets to the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues.
The loss for the Mountaineers was their sixth in a row as the team fell to 1-6 overall.
Senior Erin Harden led the way for the Mountaineers with a team high eight kills and one ace.
Sophomore Kinsey Middleton had another all around great performance with one ace, two kills, and seven digs.
Senior Payton Reynolds had a team high 10 digs.
One thing head coach, Hannah Bradley said of her team following the loss in three sets to Eastern Montgomery last Monday was the team needed to play defense before worrying about offense.
Coach Bradley on her teams performance against the Fighting Blues, “the team’s defense definitely improved, but there is still room for improvement. I am proud of them for working a lot harder.”
The Mountaineers will have a layoff period of 12 days following their Thursday night game.
The next time the team will be out on the court will be on September 28 when they host Radford in a Pioneer District game.
“With the team having quite a few days off, we will keep working on aggressiveness and quick feet drills practice. I think the team will definitely regroup. We will be trying people at different positions, as well as working on different defense tactics” said coach Bradley on how the team will utilize the extra off days.
The Mountaineers JV and Varsity teams recently had several changes to their up coming schedule, you can add now the teams originally scheduled home Thursday, October 21 game with Glenvar to Wednesday, October 20.
The start time of that day will remain the same with JV starting at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity following.
