September 4, 1971: City Council Meets Tuesday
City Council will hold a call meeting which will serve as its annual organized meeting Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. It will be the first meeting for the newest member of Council, H.E. “Ed” Matics, who was elected to Council in May.
Councilman William A. Taylor Jr. was re-elected in the same election, while Councilman L. Marshall Wolfe was defeated.
The meeting has been moved up one week from the original Sept. 14 date so council members can attend an out of town meeting on the latter date.
At the annual organizational meeting each September, Council elects a mayor and vice-mayor and appoints the clerk of council and city attorney. Usually, the man who received the highest number of votes in the election is chosen mayor in the years when a councilmanic election has been held. Taylor led the voting in May.
There are no public hearings on the agenda, but communications, petitions, and requests include:
Easement agreement between the city and Robert W. McAllister and wife for a 24″ storm draft crossing the south corner of their lot.
Request of J.A. Laughlin, city school superintendent, to address Council in the interets of the school board concerning a federal aid program.
