Cleveland Campbell of Lynchburg reported to the Clifton Forge police last night the disappearance of his father from Jackson Street yesterday morning.
According to Campbell, the missing man left at 9:30 a.m. yesterday to be gone only a few minutes.
He had not returned at 8:15 p.m. when the report was made, although he was believed to have been seen earlier in the day on the east end of Pine Street.

Today’s Headline: Clifton Forge Fireman Heads Northern Unit.
Frank H. Wheeler of Clifton Forge was elected president of the Northern Virginia Firemen’s Association Friday during the last day of the association’s annual convention.
The Clifton Forge Chamber of Commerce announced today it is seeking applicants, primarily from prospective female workers, for employment in a garment industry interested in locating in this area.

Today’s Headline: Hill Presented Life Membership By Local NAACP Chapter.
Leonard Jones, president of the local chapter of the NAACP, awarded a life membership plaque to George D. Hill Jr. at the group’s monthly meeting last night at Pine Street Baptist Church.
A Covington woman was injured Monday when the car she was attempting to jump start accidentally rolled into her. Kimberlye L. Vass, 20, of West Jackson Street, was transported to Alleghany Regional Hospital with a leg injury.
