Miss Mary Johnston, author of “To Have and To Hold” and other popular historical novels, died early today at her home, “Three Hills,” in Bath County. She was 65 years old.
Miss L.O. Gorrell of Lexington Street, Covington, has returned from a visit with friends in Charleston, W.Va.

Today’s Headline: School Board To Let Bids On Watson School Addition.
The passage of a recommendation setting 11:30 a.m. June 20 at the school board office as the time and place for the letting of bids on the Phase II addition to Watson High School was perhaps the city school board’s major action of last night’s meeting.
A proposed resolution accepting the addition to Edgemont Elementary School as completed was postponed until 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, when the entire board will make a final check of the building to see that all specifications have been met.

Today’s Headline: Governor Visits Work Projects In Highlands.
Governor Gerald Baliles spent almost an hour in the Highlands this morning viewing highway construction on U.S. 220 near Clifton Forge and proposed highway sites in Covington and Alleghany County.
Donna Cosby will be the guest speaker at the Mother’s Day services at Pine Street Baptist Church Sunday.
