Chairman Eldon Crowder and Supervisor Paul Cole of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors combined in welcoming the delegates to the annual convention of the Virginia State Federation of Labor.
Mayor Harry W. Robertson did the honors for the town of Covington in graceful and hospitable style.
Funeral services for Mr. Charles A. Hoover, retired veteran C&O conductor of Highland Street, who died at the C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge Saturday afternoon, were held at the residence at 10:30 this morning.

Mrs. Charles Blakeslee Nettleton of “Carolton-on-the-Ridge” Covington, was elected as seventeenth president of the National Council of State Garden Clubs at the 32nd annual meeting of the organization currently being held in Philadelphia, Penn.
Ellis H. Barr was elected president of the Alleghany County Fair Association at the annual board of directors meeting Wednesday.

Today’s Headline: VFW Post 1033 Honors Parents At Annual Banquet.
Otis N. Berry, past Virginia State Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, was guest speaker last night at the annual Gold Star Parents Banquet held at the VFW Post Home on Dolly Ann Drive.
Work continues on the new Food Lion grocery store under construction at Aide’s Shopping Center on Craig Avenue in Covington.

The Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation has awarded the Central High School Lucy Gleason Scholarship to Heather Gladden of Millboro.
Chelsea Dressler has been chosen to receive an academic scholarship in the honors program at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol.
