Steven Andrews received his Eagle Scout award on March 20 during a special ceremony held at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Covington.
The attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout represents the culmination of a journey that began in the year 2000 when Steven joined Cub Scout Pack 26, Den 2.
Steven was also a member of Webelos Pack 26 before crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 26, which is sponsored by Edgemont ARP Church. Steven is currently a Troop Guide for Troop 26.
Members of Troop 26 assisted with the worship service and Eagle Scout Ceremony. William Jamison served as acolyte, while Will Mason and Cody O’Connor served as Color Guards, presenting the United States and Troop 26 flags.
Trey Via read the Call to Worship and the scouts took up offering while Scoutmaster Bill Jamison and his sons, scouts Nathaniel and William Jamison, played the offertory.
During the Eagle Scout ceremony, Nathaniel Jamison lit the red, white and blue Scout Oath candles while reciting the Scout Oath, and Senior Patrol Leader Austin McAllister lit the 12 Scout Law candles while reciting the Scout Law.
Scoutmaster Bill Jamison opened the Court of Honor.
Steven’s grandmother, Carol Andrews, read a poem entitled “Give Me A Scout…” and then Scoutmaster Jamison opened the floor to anyone present who wished to share testimony of Steven’s journey to Eagle Scout.
Several Mt. Carmel church members, including Paul Dressler, Eldridge Cooke, Bill Orndorff, Joyce Emerson and Carol Andrews, spoke on Steven’s behalf.
Judy Goodbar, Eagle Scout coordinator for the Stonewall Jackson area council, presented Steven with an Eagle Scout plaque and paper weight to commemorate his achievement.
Steven’s father, Rickey Andrews, then came forward to present him with the Eagle Scout medal and scarf. Rickey Andrews, himself an Eagle Scout, pinned his own Eagle Scout medal upon his son. He also presented Steven with the Eagle Scout scarf and slide that he had received from Scoutmaster Dr. James Gilbert, at his own Eagle Scout ceremony in 1991.
Scoutmaster Jamison led Steven in the recitation of the Eagle Charge oath. Steven then presented his father with the Eagle Scout father’s pin and his scoutmaster with the Eagle Scout mentor’s pin prior to the closing of the ceremony.
A reception in Steven’s honor was held immediately following the ceremony.
For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Steven refurbished the sign for Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in front of the church.
Steven’s project was completed in memory of his great-grandparents, Delmar Bert-rand and Emma Joyce Baker, and his great-uncle, Charlie Baker.
Steven is the son of Rickey and Melinda Andrews and Rebecca O’Connor and the grandson of Mitchell and Carol Andrews and the late Steven Nuckols and the late Debbie Agnor.
Steven is the fourth member of his family to receive Scouting’s highest honor.
His father, Rickey, is also an Eagle Scout, as is his cousin, Andrew Baker. His aunt, Julie Andrews, is a recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award.
