A large crowd from many denominations gathered at Trinity Baptist Church to help members welcome their new pastor, the Rev. T.D. Toler.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Waldrop and little daughter, Mary Towles, spent yesterday here visiting Mrs. Waldrop’s father, Mr. T. Towles, of Commercial Avenue.

Today’s Headline: County Raises Auto Tax $5.
Alleghany County’s Board of Supervisors officially approved a $5 increase in the cost of county auto and truck licenses, bringing the total cost to $10. The increase was provided in the current county budget.
Representatives of Alleghany County, Clifton Forge and Covington held a joint meeting to discuss the possibility of eventual consolidation of the three governmental units into one.

Today’s Headline: Rain Raises Streams, No Damage Reported.
Just over two inches of rain fell Thursday and Friday in the Highlands causing creeks and streams to rise Friday evening but no major damage or flooding has been reported.
Barbara Ryder and Kelly Martin were crowned senior and junior Little Miss Bath County Friday night during the annual pageant held at the Bath County High School auditorium.

The March of Dimes Committee for the Greater Alleghany Highlands has announced that Olivia Faith Montgomery has been named the 2006 WalkAmerica Ambassador.
An estimated 40 persons attended a birthday celebration Sat., March 4, for retired Virginian Review reporter Bill Lumpkin on his 69th birthday.
