Today’s Headline: Alleghany Given Some WPA Money.
A total of $23,804 to be used in 11 Virginia counties in constructing and repairing roads not under federal aid plan was included in allotments aggregating $172,590 announced by the Virginia Works Progress Administration today. Alleghany County will receive $3,500.
Mr. Miles Revercomb of Wills Street is spending several days with relatives in Richmond.

Today’s Headline: Viscose And Spinning Are Closing Out At Industrial Rayon.
Industrial Rayon Corporation reported today that operations in the Viscose Department at the Covington Rayon Plant are being terminated this week and that yarn spinning operations are expected to end Friday, March 24.
Dr. and Mrs. Alfred Nicely of Columbus, Ohio, were weekend guests of Dr. Nicely’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Minor Nicely of Clifton Forge.

Today’s Headline: Video Connection To Open Monday In Covington.
The Video Connection Inc., offering satellite systems and decoders, televisions, color monitors, video cassette recorders and other personal entertainment products, is scheduled to open for limited business Monday at 603 Highland Avenue.
Covington firemen need private rooms to house state firemen who will be attending the 100th annual Virginia State Fireman’s Convention in Covington August 10-15.

Today’s Headline: Tear III Resurrected In Alleghany County.
Efforts to make streams in Alleghany County Tier III have re-emerged. The latest proposal would involve designating four tributaries to Simpson Creek Tier III.
Two Alleghany Highlands residents, Benjamin Hobbs of Covington and James Buzzard of Bath County graduated from the Virginia State Academy Friday.
